From 23rd June to 3rd July 2025, WISE-Futures had the privilege of hosting the ALL4WASH Summer School Program under the theme “Towards Sustainable and Resilient Onsite Sanitation in a Changing Climate.” Held in MSTCDC, Arusha, Tanzania, this international program brought together a vibrant mix of 16 postgraduate students from Tanzania, South Africa, Mali, Uganda, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Norway, alongside coordinators and facilitators from across Africa and Europe.

The summer school, implemented through the NORPART project, aimed to equip emerging researchers and professionals with practical knowledge and innovative approaches to tackle the growing challenges of sanitation in the face of climate change.

Over the course of 11 days, participants took part in interactive lectures, hands-on workshops, group projects, and field visits—all focused on building climate-resilient onsite sanitation systems. Key site visits included the Wastewater Stabilization Pond in Terrat and the Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in Mureti, where participants gained firsthand insights into real-world sanitation operations and management.

Beyond academic sessions, the program offered participants a chance to experience Tanzania’s unique natural heritage through excursions to Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, blending learning with cultural and environmental exploration.

By the end of the program, participants departed with more than technical expertise—they left with renewed purpose, stronger professional networks, and a shared vision for sustainable sanitation solutions across borders.

A Movement for Change

The ALL4WASH Summer School was more than just a learning platform—it was a movement. A movement driven by passionate young minds who believe that access to safe sanitation is not a privilege, but a basic human right.

As climate change continues to threaten water and sanitation systems globally, programs like ALL4WASH are planting seeds of hope and action. These young leaders now return home not just with knowledge, but with a mission: to innovate, advocate, and implement sanitation solutions that are sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient.

The 2025 summer school was a transformative experience, reaffirming that when we invest in people, foster collaboration, and empower the next generation, we build not just better systems—but a better future.
