On August 29, 2024, at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), the WISE-Futures scholarship beneficiaries celebrated their graduation. This event, marking the 10th graduation ceremony of NM-AIST, was not just a celebration of academic achievement but also a significant step towards transforming Africa’s economies through innovation in the Water, Sanitation, and Energy sectors.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of the institution’s Chancellor, Honorable Omari Issa, who conferred degrees upon the graduates. Among the distinguished graduates were Adam Faraji Mfangavo, who earned a Ph.D. in Sustainable Energy Science and Engineering with his research titled “Computational and Experimental Performance Analysis of a Runner for Gravitational Water Vortex Power Plant,” and John Pyuza Gunda, who completed a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Science and Engineering with his innovative research on the “Design of an Evaporative Cooling System Integrated with Ultraviolet Light for the Preservation of Fruits and Vegetables in Variable Tropical Weather Conditions.”

The journey of these graduates, supported by the WISE-Futures scholarship, is a testament to their dedication to advancing the energy sector and addressing critical challenges in Tanzania and beyond.
