During its Council meeting on March 10, 2023, the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology noted and approved the promotion of Dr. Hans C. Komakech (Centre Leader) and Dr. Yusufu Abeid Chande Jande (Deputy Centre Leader) from Senior Lecturer to Associate Professor.

Hans studies a variety of water issues using an interdisciplinary approach and through mixed methods. His recent research projects focus on groundwater use in urban informal areas, farmer-led irrigation development, agricultural water management, and local water sharing arrangements.
Jande’s research interest is on capacitive deionization (for desalination, CO2 capture, and purification of any ionic solution), layer by layer production (for production of uniformly porous and graded porous structures using selective laser sintering (SLS) and producing composite materials from porous structures produced using SLS), and energy (both renewable and non-renewable).
