The Centre for Water Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy Futures (WISE-Futures) in partnership with Aerosol Research and Technology Plus (ART+) and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) has launched Automotive Cabin Air Filter Tester on 21st October 2019 at The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Arusha, Tanzania.
WISE-Futures Deputy Centre Leader, Yusufu Abed Chande Jande, said “the machine will be used to test the quality of air filters on cars and air conditioners. The purpose is to make sure the air in the different human environment is safe and free of viruses and bacteria”.
“According to World Health Organization statistics for 2018, they show one million people on the African continent every year are losing lives due to pollution” as reported by Insoo Chang of ART+.
Due to that, the machine will be used in testing the quality of automotive and airline cabin-air filters, vacuum filters, industrial or commercial ventilation filters, compressed air filters, collective protection military filters, and many other types of medium-flow air filters.
The machine will not only provide an opportunity in practical learning for both students and faculty but also assist in the making of competent graduates who will impact the innovation and technology advancement in Tanzania, Africa and globally in filter technology.
KOTRA Director-General, Hong Kyun Lee, said the launch of the machine would contribute to the expansion of various environmental studies.
“The world is facing the problem of globalization and climate change, and if you look at developing countries like Tanzania facing this challenge of climate change as a result of many large construction projects. Construction industry causes a lot of air pollution, but these machines will be able to help with air quality testing and alertness,” said Lee.
