On the 7th and 8th of March 2024, the WISE-Futures Centre and the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) convened for the 4th joint committee meeting, held at WISE-Futures boardroom. The primary objective of this meeting was to conduct a comprehensive review of the implementation status of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the years 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, various activities were discussed and executed with meticulous planning. These included the organization of a sensitization program targeted at stakeholders, as well as the stringent quality control assessment of both imported and locally manufactured air filters. Additionally, efforts were made to engage East African Community (EAC) Partners in the harmonization of standards for air filters, aiming for consistency and reliability across the region.<\/p>\n

Both the WISE-Futures Centre and the Tanzania Bureau of Standards are currently in the process of preparing and executing sensitization programs across diverse regions. These initiatives are geared towards raising public awareness about air filters and their significant impacts on health, the economy, and the environment. The primary aim is to educate the community about the latest standards governing cabin air filters and internal combustion engine air filters, ensuring strict adherence to international benchmarks.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, an official declaration to the public regarding the mandatory adoption of these air filter standards is forthcoming. This declaration serves to inform individuals about the potential consequences of using air filters, whether imported or locally manufactured, that have not undergone testing by relevant regulatory bodies such as the TBS. Attendees will be apprised of the legal implications and penalties associated with non-compliance.<\/p>\n

In the backdrop of these initiatives, a tale of collaboration unfolded. In October 2019, through the partnership between ART Plus and NM-AIST\/WISE-Futures, a vehicle cabin air filter testing machine was generously donate NM-AIST. To ensure the optimal utilization of this valuable asset, NM-AIST\/WISE-Futures has partnered with the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS). The TBS is mandated to utilize the machine for quality assurance purposes, specifically focusing on both locally manufactured and imported vehicle cabin air filters, in alignment with established protocols, thereby emphasizing its use for quality assurance rather than research purposes exclusively.<\/p>\n
