The Dean of the School of Materials, Energy, Water, and Environmental Science (MEWES) at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Prof. Kelvin Mtei, argues that the MEWES day committee should schedule additional days as a forum for people to interact with one another and discover more about one another’s skills, which will later be used to further the goals of the school.<\/p>\n

Prof. Mtei stressed that on August 18, 2023, an event occurred at the Mount Meru Hotel, where all MEWES and WISE-Futures center staff spent an evening together. This gathering, he believed, was a significant step towards promoting unity and interaction among the staff members. <\/p>\n

Adding his perspective, Prof. Hans Komakech, the leader of the WISE-Futures Center, highlighted the event as a means to strengthen unity and encourage interaction among the members. He expressed his hopes that by the end of the event, there would be greater familiarity among the attendees, leading to a more efficient and friendly working environment. <\/p>\n

The event also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of Prof. Hans Komakech and Prof. Yusufu AC Jande, who were both promoted from senior lecturer to Associate Professor during the year. Additionally, the occasion was used to celebrate the staff members who welcomed new children into their families this year.<\/p>\n

As the evening unfolded, the festivities included cutting a cake to celebrate Ms. Tusekile Alfred’s birthday and engaging in music and games such as drafts, darts, cards and music performances.<\/p>\n

The event concluded with a thoughtful gesture, as each participant received a laptop bag as a gift. This token of appreciation had been prepared by the committee to express gratitude to all who had come together to make the event a success.<\/p>\n
