Water Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy Futures (WISE – Futures) African centre of excellence is hosted by the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Arusha, Tanzania. WISE – Futures is one of the East and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence phase two (ACE II) supported by the World Bank. WISE – Futures was declared effective by the World Bank in January 26, 2017. The center focusses on three priority areas: water and sanitation security, water resources security, and energy security. Primarily the center functions by steering activities aimed at achieving excellence by uplifting the capacity (in terms of human resources and manufacturing industry) of Tanzania and African nations to solve pressing problems related to water, sanitation, and energy. The center works in close collaboration with local, regional, and international collaborators from both the private and public sectors.

Provide excellent learning environment for graduates to specialize in water and energy related fields, provide stimulating environment for early career researchers solving pressing problems related to water, sanitation and energy security and strengthening regional and international research collaboration in order to promote the development of cutting edge solutions to water, sanitation, and energy challenges
